Martha Creek Interviews Rev. Kathleen Flynn

Rev. Kathleen Flynn is an Advanced Grief Recovery Specialist certified by the Grief Recovery Institute of Bend OR. She serves on the Spiritual Care Team at CHRISTUS St. Vincent Regional Medical Center where she coordinates the Bereavement Program. In May 2020, Kathleen received the designation of board-certified clinical chaplain.

Kathleen has served in the field of death, dying and bereavement for 20 years; first with hospice and now as a bereavement counselor and facilitator of grief recovery in others. In her role coordinating bereavement services, Kathleen interfaces with 400 families a year offering grief support groups, a quarterly newsletter, bi-annual Remembrance Services, and referrals for situations that require one-on-one counseling. Kathleen supports ministers in their effort to comfort and care for those experiencing loss through teaching her course and soon to be book: Let’s Get Real About Grief. She recently published two articles in Unity’s booklet Peaceful Passing.

She completed her master’s degree in religious studies and applied theology in Oregon in 2008. An ordained Unity Minister, Kathleen served as senior minister and associate minister for 3 northwest Unity communities and Unity Santa Fe, NM.

Kathleen was born and lived in Alaska until she moved to the Pacific Northwest in 2001. She has two adult children and three grandchildren who live in New York and Alaska. Kathleen resides at Namaste Village in Ajijic, Mexico.
